Julie R. Spencer, DNP, FNP-BC, CUNP

Julie has been part of the Urology Group since 2003. Julie received her undergraduate degree in biochemistry with a double major in chemistry from Virginia Tech. She then went on to Johns Hopkins University and received her Bachelor of Science in Nursing. After graduating with her nursing degree, she worked in the pediatric intensive care unit at Georgetown University Medical Center in Washington, D.C. for four years. Julie completed her Master’s in Science from Georgetown University. She became licensed to practice as a Family Nurse Practitioner in 2003 and became certified as a Urology Nurse Practitioner in 2006. She received a Doctor in Nursing Practice at Johns Hopkins University. She also has a post-master’s certificate in nursing education from Johns Hopkins University.

Since entering practice, Julie has quickly strived to become an expert in women’s health and pelvic floor dysfunction. She has attended many local and national conferences to continue her training in urology. She co-founded the Continence Center and has given several lectures locally and nationally on incontinence and voiding dysfunction. She has published several journal articles discussing urinary topics.

She has also been actively involved with Georgetown University serving as a preceptor for over five years and has been an adjunct Assistant Professor at Georgetown University within the Family Nurse Practitioner Program since 2010. Julie has been an active board member of both the Northern Virginia Council of Nurse Practitioners for over eight years and serves on the board for Loudoun Medical Group as well.

Julie also enjoys helping to treat patients who are underserved and have limited access to healthcare. She currently volunteers monthly at a local Free Clinic. She has also volunteered her time at Bay St. Louis during the Katrina Hurricane catastrophe in 2006 and travelled internationally to Amazonas Brazil, Belize, and Guatemala to give out medical care to those in need.
