TVT (Urethral Sling) Discharge Instructions

  • During daytime hours, urinate (empty your bladder) every 3-4 hours.
  • No lifting over 10 pounds for six weeks.
  • There is no restriction regarding use of stairs.
  • You may drive 48 hours after surgery.
  • If there is a dressing on your abdomen, you may remove it the morning after surgery.
  • The small paper tapes (steri-strips) covering the incisions will curl at the edges and can be removed in seven days.
  • You may shower the day after surgery. Do not take a tub bath for 10 days.
  • Vaginal spotting is normal for the next 1-2 weeks.
  • Do not have sexual relations or use tampons for six weeks.
  • Notify your physician regarding any temperature over 101_F, burning on urination, redness, swelling, or discharge from the incision sites.
  • Call your physician to schedule a postoperative appointment.
