Postoperative Instructions
Hydrocele Repair (Orchiopexy) - Child
- After anesthesia, begin with clear liquids. Avoid any heavy meals on the day of the procedure. Depending on how he feels the following day, he may resume the diet he normally follows.
- The incision in the groin area may be covered with tape and a piece of clear plastic. There may be some blood under the clear plastic. This should be left in place until his visit at one week after surgery. If the dressing comes off before then, it is okay.
- It is normal to have incisional discomfort, some moderate swelling of the incision or bruising of the skin near the incision, or bruising or swelling in the scrotum.
- Plan to make an office follow-up in one week. Call to make an appointment.
- Take Tylenol (10 mg per kg of weight or approximately 5 mg per pound) every three to four hours as needed.
- If you are given a prescription for pain medication, follow the directions on the bottle.
- Wait 48 hours after surgery to shower or bathe.
